*A
lot of basics that we learn when we are little are lost as we grow older
and things become more complicated…every once in awhile we need
to return to the roots…the basic blocks*
Focus: What it means to be a leader and the basic building
blocks of an effective leader. (…leader in the individual sense
as well as on a larger scale, for instance, focus on how communities
can be leaders) Below are six basic building blocks.
Please tailor your programs
to fit one, or more, of these blocks.
Basic
Building Blocks--> 6 degrees of leadership
1) Accessible: Leaders are accessible to their peers
and their advisors. They facilitate the movement of ideas and maintain
the effectiveness within their group.
2) Communicative: Leaders effectively exchange thoughts,
ideas, concerns, etc. through many different mediums, whether it is
writing, speech, or behavior.
3) Goal Oriented & Visionary: Leaders work with
the past and the present to make positive changes for the future. The
goal oriented visionary is a person with an agenda.
4) Inspirational: Effective leaders evoke emotion from
an individual or community that will result in action or change.
5) Organized & Responsible: Leaders balance their
workload to maximize the available resources and willingly respond to
the challenges that come with creating change.
6) Service Oriented: Leaders are service oriented,
for their peers approved their position and thus they must represent
them in action, voice, and spirit.
